My favorite books and audio books from 2023

Non-Fiction / Family Discipleship:

Habits of the Household – Practicing the Story of God in Everyday Family Rhythms by Justin Earley:  I’ve never read a book that was both so convicting and encouraging at the same time. I felt understood and seen as a family, yet challenged and inspired to not just DO MORE, but be more. More present, more intentional, more purposeful in all the things we already do. There wasn’t a lot of “Oh, I’m adding this to a long list of things to say and complete,” but more, “when we do this (sit down to eat, pray before bed, clean up the dishes, discipline misbehavior), lets do it THIS WAY instead.

Serious Fiction:

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes: I loved this book. The details, the historical fiction of life in rural Kentucky, the women who quietly stand up in faith to the injustices the world throws at them.  (I’d say it has mature themes so please be advised for trigger warnings).

Funny Fiction: Thursday Murder Club: A Novel by Richard Osman

An unlikely group of senior citizens in a rich retirement community band together to solve a few mysteries playing out right in front of them. I definitely laughed out loud and loved the characters!

Others I enjoyed:

Raising Emotionally Strong Boys: Tools Your Son Can Build on for Life, by David Thomas

Finely Donovan is Killing It: A Novel by Elle Cosimano

Bluebird Bluebird by Attica Locke

What I’m looking Forward to:

Sequels: Thursday Murder Club part 2 & 3: The Man Who Died Twice and The Bullet That Missed

Re-reading: Let Me Teach You to Be Rich

Other Fiction: Once Upon a Wardrobe, Tokyo Ever After, Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors (recs from a friend over at @lucysnarnia)

Nonfiction: Live No Lies, Daring Greatly

Parenting: Let Them Be Kids
