A planned week of workouts hardly ever actually goes exactly as planned. Life happens. But that doesn’t have to derail you.
There is no such thing as a perfect week, just perfect adaptability.
My week got a little mixed up and things had to be rearranged.
Here are a few things that help me get it done regardless.
1. Know what the week holds from the beginning. I use the Believe Training Journal to write out my runs, strength sessions, classes I’m teaching and taking, at the beginning of each week. That way, I know what has to be done and where there is space to rearrange if needed.
2. When something gets interrupted I re-plan that workout as soon as I know. If a workout has to be missed in the morning or I end up not having the time for that specific run, I know what run I can do instead and switch it or I know what morning or evening does have a free spot for it.
3. Something is better than nothing. It’s tempting when we oversleep or are tight on time to skip the workout all together. If you can’t rearrange and know you don’t have time for the entire workout- make a shortened plan. Half the recovery miles is better than zero recovery miles. A quarter of the speedwork is better than zero speedwork.
4. Finally, let it go. If it just can’t happen and there just isn’t room in the week for it – let it go and move on. Don’t quilt trip yourself and sabotage the rest of your workouts stressing over the one workout you didn’t get it. Pick up where you left off and be present for that run!

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus[d] from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
